Guide to Farmville Crop Mastery

Crop mastery in Farmville is a rather fresh innovation by Zynga . You start working on mastery as soon as you reach level 10 and will continue adding points toward it throughout your Farmville gaming career . You get one point of mastery for each successful square of field that you harvest . For instance , a 16×16 field of ripe cotton will get you 256 mastery points. Go to the Market and look at the entry below each picture of produce so you can check on your points . There is a progress bar and 3 stars to help you figure out where you are in mastering the crop . To master a particular crop, complete all three stars !

Mastering a Crop
Grow a crop. Then harvest it. Grow it again . Harvest it again . Repeat these steps numerous times. The number of points required to master a seed is not the same for every seed .

The Point of Mastery
Mastery is more about showing off and a little bit about earning  farmville coins . You get a sign that you can show on your field when you attain all three levels of mastery . Your visitors will be aware that you have mastered a certain crop when they see your sign . Moreover, mastery also makes the game appealing as you start to get into higher levels where you don’t unlock new crops or items.

Once you get mastery of a crop, you unlock the ability to harvest superior crops . Premium crops occur randomly throughout your harvest and give you extra xp . Keep in mind that it only take effect for the crop that you currently have mastery in. You may also need to use the sign that comes with your achievement— post it by the field and be proud ! Mastering a small number of crops is a terrific idea to assist you to level faster by earning extra xp points . You will likely want to pick something with a somewhat quick harvest time so that you can go through as many harvests as possible .

Be a wonderful neighbor! Head on to Farmville Neighbors for more info .

Reviews of mobile broadband

Mobile broadband or mobile Internet is becoming increasingly popular. Changes in the way we work and learn means that mobile broadband is a requirement these days.   For example it is fantastic for students who require access whilst at college or university. It is great for people on the move. It is even good if you require Internet access while you are on holiday if you need to be in contact wile you are away.

Examples of companies offering mobile broadband services include Virgin mobile, 3, Vodafone and Tesco .

So why choose mobile broadband?

Currently the most popular way of using mobile broadband is by a USB dongle, a laptop or net book and a contract with a mobile broadband supplier. 3 mobile broadband is one of the most popular choices for mobile broadband.

If you wanting to use your mobile broadband abroad you should check with your supplier before travelling as not all contracts allow this and some require activation. Using mobile broadband abroad can be costly so you sould check what it is going to cost you before travelling.

Mobile broadband allows you access the internet from anywhere which means that you can check your emails so that you can keep up to date with work or with your friends. You can access your favourite websites from anywhere. You could even use it to dial in to a remote server and access your works files if your company allows this.

Another good use for mobile broadband is for support. If you go abroad and run a small support company you may need at times to dial in to a customers server or network to fix a problem. Mobile broadband allows you do this without having to worry about providing cover.

How much should I expect to pay?

You can choose between different plans such as pay as you go or monthly contracts with varying amounts of data allowance per month. So depending on ow much you intend to use it will decide on what you choose but a typical month cost will be about £20.

New Google Wave Will Change How We Email, Collaborate, Blog And Share Documents

I recently watched a Google presentation video about a completely new technology/platform that Google Labs have been working on called Wave. From what I saw this will change how we use email how we communicate and how we collaborate.

First up is the email application, and I use email here as a very loose term. Email will no longer be the email that we know. Instead it will be a complete communication tool. As you type your message to the recipient of your choice, if you so choose, the recipient will be able to watch you type in real time. Now stop and think about that. I didn’t say that once you hit the enter or send button the recipient will see your message, I said as you type the recipient will see your message as you type in real time. Now of course this is dependent on both parties being signed in and online simultaneously. However if one person is online and the other is not then as soon as the recipient signs in they see the message (Wave) and any additions or revisions that the sender may have made.

To take it a step further you will be able to add more people to the conversation simply by dragging them into the conversation window. Once the 3rd or 4th person gets dragged into the Wave (that’s what it’s going to be known as , The Wave) then that person or persons will see the entire conversation beginning to the present. But to take it even further anyone coming into the conversation will be able to literally replay the conversation from the beginning so that they get the whole message in context. Another really cool feature is the ability to respond to a comment or sentence within the message. So in other words lets say that within the message somewhere in the 3rd paragraph is a reference that you would like to respond to. You can enter a response directly below that line as opposed to the end of the full conversation and again the message will be see immediately or upon signing in.

Adding images is also innovative. If you were to drag images into the Wave then anyone who is online that is part of the Wave will see them immediately. The thumbnails will actually pop into the Wave before the images are even rendered on the screen that they were entered on. All in all pretty awesome. You can also extract the images or for that matter portions of the conversation to share with others without sharing the entire Wave.

This next feature blew me away. If you decide to you can share the Wave or parts of the Wave on a blog something akin to Google Maps API. The difference here is that if if someone makes a comment on the Wave that was embedded into the blog, it will also go directly to the Wave that is going on within the application and conversely one can respond to the comment from within the Wave and have the comment be published on the blog. You can also then continue the conversation within the Wave client or the blog or both. All of these features will also be available on an iPhones app and the Android all working together in real time.

There is a lot more that I can write about but I fear I may lose you or get boring. So why don’t you go ahead and watch the Google You Tube video directly below this post for the rest of the story. I hope that you have enjoyed this and found it to be informative. If you did please leave a comment and let me know what you think of this new upcoming Wave.

New WordPress For Joomla Extension Version 2.7.1. Is it Worth The Upgrade?

A little while ago I did a review of the WordPress for Joomla extension that gave you new and almost infinite possibilities with Joomla that you didn’t have before. Now ‘corePHP’ has released and updated version of WordPress for Joomla in the flavor of WordPress 2.7.1 and as good as the original version was, this new version is that much better. The new version of WordPress for Joomla extension now includes permalink capabilities, four sidebars, the WP-Cumulus plugin and a few more useful plugins that will allow readers to share your posts with many social media websites.

First though let’s start with the easy installation and configuration of this extension. ‘corePHP’ has two different versions of the .zip file for download. The reason is that WordPress for Joomla extension is a fairly large file size and some servers may time-out when trying to install since it will take longer than 30 seconds which is the usual default server setting for uploading PHP files. So the second option is to install part of the extension through the Joomla installer and upload the rest of the files through FTP, either way the installation is very easy and fast.

joomlaext

For those of you who may never have seen the Joomla admin panel the screenshot on the left shows the Joomla installer and the process of which you would install any Joomla extension including the WordPress for Joomla extension. I must say that Raphael Corral, the developer at ‘corePHP’ who is responsible for this extension, did an incredible job with this extension. I can’t think of anything else on the market that even comes close to what WordPress for Joomla does for Content Management Systems and Internet publishing platforms. To try to put it into perspective, this would be like taking Mac’s OS X and re-writing it and building it into Windows Vista so that they become one (Please don’t bombard me with VMware comments because that’s not what I mean). That would be an incredibly powerful operating system that would have unlimited potential. Well the WordPress for Joomla extension in essence does that with Joomla and WordPress.

shot1

The screenshot on the left is a screenshot of the WordPress for Joomla extension. As you can see it looks exactly like a standalone version of WordPress and if you were blindfolded and put in front of a keyboard and screen you would never know that you were in fact working with the extension and not WordPress. You might ask at this point, “Why would I use this extension if I could use WordPress and get the same result?”. Well the thing is that you could now build your site any way that you want. There are many people who now attempt to use WordPress as a Content Management System with mixed results. So lets say that you have a product or service that you want to promote or sell but at the same time you want to have the ability to have a blog because you want to be able to add posts on a regular basis to attract readers and give more value and enhance your site and your products. A static website invariably is a lot harder to promote and get good Google rankings than a site with regularly added content that changes on a regular basis. Google does give points for sites that add content on a regular basis, not to mention the benefits that you would gain by showing your authority on the product or service that you would like to sell. Now on the flip side of that if you wanted a blog, you can now build a blog like no other. Joomla has a built-in blogger-API plugin that when activated will allow you to submit your Joomla built blog to various blog lists including Technorati and DMOZ (The open directory project) and it will be “seen” as a blog.

Getting back to the extension, it really is a breeze to work with. Whether you have ever used WordPress or not it’s the easiest publishing platform to work with. All you do is click on the left side menu selection for “Add new post”, write it and click on publish and your done. It really is that easy, of course you have the ability to add mages or other media and you can format the text pretty much any way that you would like.

Currently these are the plugins available for the WordPress for Joomla extension:

  • Akismet
  • All-In-One SEO Pack
  • GD Star Rating
  • Lightbox 2
  • Report Comments
  • Sermon Browser
  • ShareThis
  • Sociable
  • Subscribe To Comments
  • Subscribe 2
  • TineyMCE Advanced Text Editor
  • Wikipedia Autolink
  • WP Cumulus
  • WordPress.com Stats

While the list may not be extensive these are some core plugins that the vast majority of WordPress users use on their blogs. I also know first hand that many more plugins are being worked on by ‘corePHP’ and of course the community should start contributing to the efforts shortly. Generally speaking the plugins have to be coded to work correctly with this extension, however there are some plugins that will work without changing a line of code. Nextgen Gallery for example works fine in it’s original state. So you do have to try if there is a certain plugin that you like to use. If however it does not work you can always ask the team to make a specific plugin available. On the ‘corePHP’ site there is a section for customers to add their requests and ideas.

All of the same upgrades that were made to WordPress 2.7.1 (Stand alone version) are also part of this extension and the full compliment of WordPress feature are available in this extension:

  • Natively works on Joomla! 1.5, install it as any other extension
  • Dynamic Pages
  • Pages –Allows you to manage non-bloggable content, such as an About page
  • WordPress Links –  (Blogroll).
  • WordPress Themes – There are thousands of themes out on the web ready to be used with WordPress. ‘corePHP’ also offers the ability to make you a custom theme to match your website. Note: Most themes will need some edits to work inside of Joomla!
  • Cross-blog communication tools – WordPress fully supports both the Trackback and Pingback
  • Comments – Visitors can leave comments on individual posts and through Trackbacks and Pingbacks.
  • Spam protection —WordPress comes with very robu
st tools such as an integrated blackli
st and open proxy checker to manage and eliminate comment spam on your blog.
  • Full Joomla! 1.5 user integration – WordPress will sync the WordPress user every time he loads the component to make sure all of the users information is accurate. All of WordPress roles are fully functional within Joomla! 1.5
  • Password Protected Posts – Give individual posts a password to hide them from the public.
  • Easy Installation and upgrades – Every time a new update comes out just uninstall it from Joomla’s administrator panel, and install the new version, your database, media, plug-ins and themes will still be there.
  • XML-RPC interface – WordPress currently supports an extended version of the Blogger API, MetaWeblog API, and finally the MovableType API.
  • User Roles – You can have different user types, users that can only post drafts, but cannot publish them.
  • ASCII to correct XHTML – WordPress will transform pain ASCII into correct XHTML entities.
  • Ping away – WordPress supports pinging Ping-O-Matic, which means maximum exposure for your blog to search engines.
  • iPhone – Joomla! supports the iPhone app for WordPress. This app allows you to create, publish, draft, and password protect your posts. It takes pictures and much more in the upcoming releases.
  • Post via Email – If you don’t have an iPhone, you can send an email to a predefined email address and WordPress will automatically post it to your blog.

‘corePHP’ has added a few features of our own:

  • Add / Remove blog title
  • Add / Remove sidebar
  • Different options for CSS style sheets
  • Enable / Disable automatic role syncing with Joomla!
  • Show / Hide Author name in posts.

You have to admit this is an impressive list of features for any product but to now have the ability to join Joomla and WordPress into one platform is a feather in ‘corePHP’s cap. I for one am one of their biggest fans and I’m also looking forward to testing out the new ‘corePHP’ WordPress-MU for Joomla extension. Yes that’s right they now release WordPress-MU and that just opens up all new doors and possibilities and I’ll be publishing my findings shortly. In the meantime have fun with this incredible plugin and start imagining the things that you could create with this extension and Joomla.

Webcam Max A Great New Utility For Your Webcam

I just recently came across Webcam Max a new utility for your webcam needs. At first when I saw this I thought that it was just a gimmicky software application to use for just having some fun when chatting to you friends over an instant massaging program, however it’s more than that it’s a tool to use with the online service ustream.com.

This is one cool application and I actually prefer to call it a tool because of all of the things that you can do with it. First of all lets start with the installation which was a breeze. Very simple, no odd configurations or questions. Just click install and the installer does the rest. Once installed all you have to do is set Webcam Max as the default capture utility for your webcam and off you go. Webcam Max has somewhere in the area of 2000 special effects that you can use in your cam image. Everything from a waving country flag in the corner to a cartoon superman body imposed on the screen with your face in the right place. Pretty cool stuff, but it doesn’t stop there. As I said before it is a tool. You can use this seamlessly with the online TV streaming site ustream.com. When broadcasting live online you can use Webcam Max to show your desktop as apposed to the live picture of yourself or whatever your streaming. That in itself is worth the money for this application especially if you plan on doing any kind of online tutorials or even live classes. You also have the ability to show images from any folder on your PC, so if you have a Office presentation that you need to share you can do that too. You can play videos and share a color pallet if you wanted to. You can also zoom in for super close-ups and of course you can record all of this. It makes it super easy to upload and share your videos with online services like You Tube. Oh yeah and you can even use a PinP feature.

Some other things you can do is apply various special effects like different mirror effects, multiple grids (Tile the live stream), you can use an embossing filter, fire shadows and many many others. As I said before you can use over 2000 special effects to enhance and make your broadcast more interesting. Also as I said earlier you can use this application with any IM application, everything from AIM to ICQ to Skype and everything in between.

The pricing for all of this is very extremely reasonable and I have to repeat myself here by saying that it is loaded with features. I really think this is the most feature rich program of this type. I have not seen anything else that even comes close and at a starting price of $19.99 it is a bargain. So don’t wait just go on over to Webcam Max and download the trial version (which does have a watermark and limited effects) and check it out for your self.

How To Choose A Webhost Provider Part 2

In part one I mentioned PHP, MySql and Apache. Please, to avoid headaches and disappointment later make sure that the servers are updated with latest versions of this software. Even if they supply a one click install of WordPress, it’s up to you to install any plugins that you could get for it. Some of these plugins might only work if you have the latest PHP or Apache installed. So just because the platform(I.E. WordPress)that you want to use for blogging will work, it doesn’t mean that all addons or plugins will.
Most providers will include some sort of admin panel so that you could access all of the features that you are getting like one click installs and PHP/Apache/MySql and database management. The most popular is cPanel with Plesk probably the next most popular and then some providers have their own versions of an admin panel. Make sure that you have one of these. It makes life a lot easier when it comes to administering your databases or accessing your PHP or Apache settings. Most providers also offer something called Fanatastico which does the one click installation of many different scripts. (Programs such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, phpBB3 and many others are called scripts). So don’t get confused if you see the word scripts substituted for programs. Fantastico unfortunately does not keep up with the latest versions of these scripts as well as some others. In my experience Fantastico lags behind by as much as a few months. Another one click installer that some providers offer is called SimpleScripts, and SimpleScripts is updated weekly even daily sometimes. In the past 6 weeks WordPress released the beta versions of the next full release. SimpleScripts offered these for download on the day that the different versions were released. And today WordPress 2.7 is available for installation. As of this writing Fantastico is still only offering WordPress 2.6.5. Some providers offer their own versions of these panels and one click installers and from what I have seen some are outstanding. The ‘but’ here is that these providers are the most expensive ‘but’, they offer some of the best services and performance.
My recommendation is this. If this is your first time venturing into the world of web development and your not even sure what your going to do with it, then I recommend getting the least expensive provider that you can with the features I mentioned above. I use Hostmonster and I have been very happy with the services that they provide. Tech support is excellent and thus far there has been no down time. Two others you might want to take a look at are DreamHost and MediaTemple. Both have very good reputations and are in the top 5 lists of some reputable reviews.
Which ever host you choose, I wish you all the best and hope that you have a very successful venture. Check back often as I will be publishing a series of articles and tutorials on building and designing websites and blogs. Subscribe to my feed to stay up to date and I will be offering a newsletter shortly.
Happy blogging!

How To Choose A Webhost

Before you can start building your website you need to choose a hosting provider. There are a few things that you need to be aware of. First of all if you start doing research you will no doubt find Host provider reviews. You have to be very careful of these so called reviews. Many of these are nothing more than an advertising scheme disguised as a review. You’ll see nice and fancy medals and banners declaring “No.1″“Top Provider”, “Winner of so and so” and many more. The best way is to do side by side comparisons and read everything very carefully.
Some things to look for: Does the provider backup the system for you? Some do most do not, however the better providers that do not, offer you the ability through you control panel to do the backups your self. Does the provider have a redundant array so that if a problem occurs they can go to their backup? What kind of processors are they using? Some of the cheaper providers use slower processors and less memory to keep costs down. A good top of the line server is very expensive, so many of these companies choose a lesser system so that they can keep prices down. Does the provider give you full access to your database and PHP, Apache and MySql configurations? There may come a time when you might have to change the configuration of your server software. If you do not have access then will tech support make these changes for you?
This is a good time to talk about tech support. This is something you have to be very careful with and you should be extremely vigilant in making sure that you get the type of support that you will need. Many providers outsource there support overseas. Believe me when I tell you, you DO NOT want to get involved with a provider like that. There is nothing that is more frustrating than having to have to explain yourself half a dozen or dozen times before they understand exactly what you are talking about. So you definitely want to make sure that the providers help desk is here in the states or at the most Canada. The other thing you want to make sure you have is Live telephone tech support. Some companies will advertise 24/7 tech support, but what they don’t tell you until you find out the hard way, is that the only way that you can get tech support 24/7 is by using a ticketing system. What that means is simply this. You fill out a form online with the problem that you are having and submit it through your cPanel or the customer are of their website. Now imagine that you have to sit there and wait for them to get back to you! Now when they do get back to you, you in turn have to send them a reply clarifying or adding additional information. And you do this back and forth a number of times, all the while your site is down or inaccessible. So make sure that you get live telephone tech support. But you have to also understand that even live tech support will not always help you if you are having a problem with an installation of a particular script (A script is the software that you will be using such as WordPress or Joomla). Tech support will be happy to help you with any server problem but in many cases no more than that. However, the better providers will go out of their way to help when you need help with something other than what their policy states.
One of the things you will see is the long list of “Extras” that a lot of providers advertise. Things like unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth, unlimited email accounts, unlimited databases, unlimited websites on one account and so on. Don’t be blinded by the “Unlimited” stuff they give you. There are a couple of these that you do want like unlimited databases, parked or addon domains and websites. As far as disk space goes, the chances that you will use more than 50 GB is very slim, unless you build 50 websites and offer downloads or videos and so on. Please do not misunderstand me. I am not telling you to get a small account, just keep things in perspective that’s all. PHP, MySql amd Apache are indispencable . These 3 things you need to be able to build your site with software like WordPress and Joomla and many many other software scripts.

New WordPress+Joomla Extension for Joomla

There is a new extension for Joomla from corePHP Called WordPress+Joomla. It is an extension that intagrates WordPress and Joomla and might change the way people build their blog websites. When I first saw this extension I was skeptical. I had tried a couple of other blog extensions and neither did what I wanted it to do. I’m not trying to build a multi-user multi-blog site. All I am trying to do is build a better blog site. So I need an extension that improves the Joomla blogging capabilities and this extension does that perfectly. Hands down this is the best extension for blogging that there is. In fact it completely redefines the CMS/Blogging platform.
Once installed and configured properly this extension is almost perfect. When you log into the WordPress admin panel, if you didn’t know better you would think that you are using WordPress 2.6.5 standalone. Pretty much everything that WordPress does , so does this extension.
It is fully configurable ad you can even use WordPress templates with a little bit of coding (A video on how to is in the works). So you can use your custom Joomla template globally or if you want you can use a WordPress theme independently form your Joomla template giving you full control over look and feel. YTou can even add widgets to the WordPress sidebar exactly the way you would in the standalone version of WP. And you have the option of disabling the default sidebar and using the available sidebar extension giving you added control over customization of your blog. Currently there are 4 extensions for Joomla and 3 plugins for WordPress. The Joomla extensions are: 1. WordPress-Categories 2. WordPress-Latest Posts 3. WordPress-Sidebar 4.Worpress-Search. The plugins are: 1. ALL-In-One SEO 2. Akismet 3. Lightbox for WordPress. The plugins you have to upload via FTP the way you would in WordPress standalone and the extensions you install through the Joomla installer 1.5.
The installation itself is a snap for most(I had a bit of a problem see notes at bottom). You install it like any other Joomla extension using the Joomla 1.5 installer. And the rest of the configuration is just as easy. If you have ever used WordPress. Either at WordPress.com or used the standalone version, you’ll be right at home.
The support is excellent. They emailed me back within an hour or so and made sure that all was well and installed and configured properly. The CEO even sent me an email to make sure that everything was in fact fine.
On the negative side: Currently there is no documentation. I have been assured that they are feverishly working on it. I had a ton of questions and they did answer all of them. Also the low number of WordPress plugins is of concern but, again they assure me that they are working on a number of plugins for future release. However they do need user feedback to better focus on the plugins that are most popular.
And the biggest negative to me is the lack of integration between the WordPress categories and Joomla categories. It would be ideal to have a module that pulls information from both databases and even syncs them for better end user experience. As it is now you have to manage both areas(Joomla and WordPress) independently.
In summary, I think this is one hell of an extension. This has the potential of changing the CMS/Blogging platform. As more and more users were migrating to WordPress for their CMS needs this might put and end to that.
If you do end up downloading this extension and have a problem installing(error referring to zip.php) just unzip it onto your desktop and use your own zip program to rezip it and you should not have a problem. They are aware of some servers having problems with this and are working on it.
If you would like to see an implementation of this you can check out my site at http://www.blogtoinspire.com. And if you have any further questions your welcome to get in touch with me. All of my contact info is on my site.
Hope this helps, Happy blogging.CMSing
