Popup Window

Many times, advertisements are displayed when a new popup window appears on the screen. This type of window is also referred to as popup ad. Pop up ads actually pop up above the original web page that you were viewing, not beneath. Ads that utilize a pop up screen and pop under the original page are referred to as pop down ads or pop under ads. Most often, these ads are not seen until the user is ready to close out their browser; then the pop under ad becomes visible.

Pop up windows can be initiated by different things that the Internet user may do on a web page. An open window of an Internet browser can have backend scripting that will initiate a pop up ad to open in a new popup window. Such actions that cause these windows to open include clicking on advertisements in the browser window, prompting new downloads, and simply allowing certain web page windows to open. A pop up ad may be more effective in advertising because it requires the internet user to perform an action. They can actively view the advertisement but they must click to close it, in order to view the page they were viewing before.

Specific scripting is responsible for the annoying pop ups, such as JavaScript. The pop up image or pop up ad is usually just an advertisement attempting to induce shopping and impulse buying; however, some are spyware popups that allow computer viruses to infiltrate your computer hardware. Some can cause a seemingly endless stream of pop up windows to plague your computer screen, with more pop up windows popping up to replace each one that is closed.

For those who vehemently dislike pop up ads, pop up killers can be used to stop popups, by disabling the script that is designed to initiate the popup. There are many pop up killers that will give you information about how many pop ups have been stopped while visiting a particular website and will keep a running count of them. Popup killers or popup blockers normally work on all new popup window ad applications; however, there are some that will not block pop under ads. If the individual is looking to stop both pop under and pop up ads, then they will most likely have to search for an application that makes the claim of taking care of both types of ads.
