Taking A Closer Look At The Motorola MH230R 23-Mile Range 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio

I am sure many of you have a time when you should keep in touch with people if you’re out hunting in a group or a group of people go fishing in a few different boats. These two-way radios can be used for many things and can truly help when you need to know where a person is.

Every year, all the males in our family go on a fishing excursion to Lake Champlain. There are normally 10 to 20 of us and we usually bring 5 to 8 boats. One of the main troubles we always had was getting everyone back for lunch or dinner because we all like to eat together. Sometimes when we couldn’t find someone, we would hop in our boats and go looking for them, sometimes for several hours.

Then one year, I decided that I would purchase some walkie talkies and put them in the boats. During my search I came across the Motorola two way radios and paid for 4 of them to see how they worked. These radios truly surprised me with the range and how well they worked out on the lake. Since the radios have a range of 23 miles, we were able to keep in touch with every boat that had one of the radios in it. As a result, after trying them out, the next year I made certain we had a radio for every last boat. This was a really smart thing since the following year my uncle’s boat broke down and wouldn’t start and the fact that he was more or less 3 miles away from the camp meant that we would have had a difficult time finding him. But since he had a two-way radio in his boat he just called us and we went out and got him. If he couldn’t have notified us, he would have rowed back 3 miles or so.

Getting these radios is one of the best purchases I have ever made in my life. Something else I love is that these radios are rechargeable so you don’t have to worry about bringing enough batteries with you when you use them. You can even know what the weather is with the weather band that these two-way radios have.

And the uses of these radios are almost endless. Just last year, my mother took all her grandkids to Disney and borrowed the radios. Her fear was that one of the kids would get separate and getting lost. It’s a good thing they were not needed but it is a great idea when taking a group of kids anywhere.

Some of my family members even use them when they are going hunting in a big group to let others know when they are leaving. Which can be a great time saver when a person leaves so you’re not walking through the woods trying to find someone who is not there.

There are a couple of different headsets that can be used with these radios which we got after the fact for our hunting trips. And because these are 22 channel radios and have 121 privacy codes you don’t have to worry about other people with the same two-way radio interfering with your radios.

Right now you can even purchase a pair of these radios through Amazon for about $40, which is a lot less than what I paid for ours. While I have only shared a few different ways that we have used the radios, I am confident you can think of a lot more ways that you could put them to use.
